RETREAT:
On the days following Swami Lakshmanjoo’s Birthday Celebration, Tuesday May 10th, through, Friday May 13th, the Fellowship will hold its bi-annual four-day Study Retreat. (Add all Lakshmanjoo Academy events to your Google Cal, or other calendars (ics).
Each day begins at 8 am with yoga, followed by meditation and recitation of Sanskrit verses specially selected for worship (puja) by Swamiji.
Following this, using the sacred revelations given by Swamiji, we will examine a number of important texts central to the philosophy and practice of this great tradition of Kashmir Shaivism.
Daily Schedule (subject to change!):
Texts we will cover during the retreat:
Abhinavagupta’s Tantraloka, Chapter 5.
This chapter deals with the eight basic meditation practices pertaining to the individual who resides in the state of ‘anavopaya’; the first of the four-fold means (upayas) explained in Kashmir Shaivism. Meditation on breath, organs of the senses, mantra, letters of the alphabet, tattvas and internal and external visualization are some of the subjects covered in this chapter.
Magical Jewel of Devotion in Kashmir Shaivism: Bhaṭṭanārāyaṇa’s Stava Cintāmaṇi
“Stava cintāmaṇi is the work of Bhaṭṭanārāyaṇa. Bhaṭṭanārāyaṇa is one of the most important Shaivite masters.
Stava cintāmaṇi means stava – hymns, cintāmaṇi – jewel. Cintāmaṇī jewel is that kind of jewel, i.e. whatever you wish it will come. It is the bestower of all your boons, all your desires. All your desires are fulfilled by that cintāmaṇi; that jewel. And this is the jewelry of that cintāmaṇi of hymns to Lord Śiva. It purifies all your desires and wishes.” ~Swami Lakshmanjoo
Interviews with Swamiji and Mother Alice (video)
Mother Alice was a yoga teacher from the United States, who brought her students to study with Swamiji in the summer. Her simple questions pertaining to yoga and day-to-day life would inspire Swamiji to share special secrets from the oral tradition of Kashmir Shaivism. We are grateful that these videos were preserved.
Practical Meditations from the Vijnana Bhairava
In the Vijnana Bhairava, Lord Bhairava (God) clears the doubts about the essence of the path towards Self-realization. He explicitly reveals 112 meditation techniques for entering into the state of God consciousness. We will be sharing one of these practices each day.
