Retreat
On the days following the Havan – Sunday, September 6th, through Wednesday, September 9th 2020 – the Fellowship will hold a four-day study retreat.
THIS RETREAT WILL BE HELD LIVE ONLINE!
RECORDINGS will be available EACH EVENING
for those WHO CANNOT MAKE the LIVESTREAM!
Daily Program:
Each day begins at 9am with meditation and recitation of Sanskrit verses (puja).
Following this, using the sacred revelations given by Swamiji, we will examine a number of important texts central to the philosophy and practice of this great tradition of Kashmir Shaivism.
Selected texts for this retreat:
Tantraloka, chapter 5
This chapter deals with āṇavopāya, spiritual practice for the individual. This includes important topics such as meditation with awareness, the essence of breath, six states of the power of mantra and meditation on the supreme word.
Spanda Sandoha from the book: The Mystery of Vibrationless-Vibration in Kashmir Shaivism – Spanda Kārikā & Spanda Sandoha
The Spanda Sandoha is the exposition of the Spanda principle, the theory of vibrationless-vibration, based on the 1st verse of Vasugupta’s groundbreaking text, the Spanda Karika.
The Magical Jewel of Devotion in Kashmir Shaivism – Stava Cintamani
Devotional hymns have always held an important place in the history of the monistic teachings of Kashmir Shaivism. The recitation of such devotional hymns is a common part of the daily spiritual practice for many Shaiva aspirants. Stava Cintamani, The Magical Jewel of Devotion in Kashmir Shaivism, is a sublime and unique hymn addressed to Lord Shiva, whom the author, Bhatta Narayana, clearly holds as the supreme reality. Though highly devotional these hymns are at the same time practical and deeply philosophical.
Practice:
Practical Meditations from the Vijnana Bhairava
In the Vijnana Bhairava, Lord Bhairava (God) clears the doubts about the essence of the path towards Self-Realization. He explicitly reveals 112 meditation techniques for entering into the state of God consciousness. We will be sharing one of these practices each day.
Yoga – Denise and Shanna will teach a yoga class each morning:
This class will interweave movement for strengthening and stretching the body, linking the breath with the movement and pranayama (breathing practices) which will leave you feeling calm and refreshed, ready for meditation and study.
Location:
Online. Information will be sent to you upon registration. Requires a computer and a preferably high-speed internet connection, or a headphone set.
Cost:
The four-day retreat Sunday, September 6th, through, Wednesday, September 9th, will cost $340. We recommend that you attend the entire retreat to get the full value. We are, however, going to allow registration for single days at $90 per day.
